TRAUMA THERAPY IN NORTH CAROLINA & SOUTH CAROLINA

Heal from the past. Build a better future.

Past trauma is having a negative effect on your daily life.

Are you feeling overwhelmed by the hold unresolved trauma has on your life? Do you often feel like you aren’t good enough? Do you feel like you are in a constant cycle of negative thoughts and feelings hindering your ability to live fully? Are you determined to put an end to generational cycles? If so, I’m here to help.

Trauma can have a profound and lasting effect on a person's life. Trauma results from exposure to an incident or series of events that are emotionally disturbing or life-threatening with lasting effects on a person’s mental, emotional, social, behavioral, and physical well-being. Direct exposure, witnessing a traumatic event, learning that a relative or close friend was exposed to trauma, or indirect exposure to the details of a traumatic event can harm a person’s sense of safety, sense of self, ability to regulate emotions, and navigate interpersonal relationships. Though the event may have happened in the past, the long-lasting effects can result in decreased feelings of safety, fear, shame, guilt, sadness, depression, helplessness, and low self-esteem.

You may be noticing that:

  • You desire to form connections with others, but something is holding you back

  • Upsetting memories from your past are creeping up on you

  • You often feel empty, like something is missing in your life

  • Trusting those closest to you is difficult because you fear abandonment or rejection

  • Your inner critic’s voice is becoming louder and louder each day

  • Avoidance has become the norm, whether that be avoidance of people, places, or the responsibilities of daily life

  • You feel depressed, irritable, angry, or frustrated more days than not

Common questions about Trauma Therapy

  • There is no “black and white” answer to this question. What one person perceives as trauma or traumatic may differ from person to person. If it felt traumatic, the chances are it was. A few examples of traumatic events include:

Bully/Teasing, Sexual Assault, Physical Abuse, Emotional Abuse, Verbal Abuse, Psychological Abuse, Death of a loved one, Separation from loved ones, Natural Disasters, Medical trauma, Witnessing Violence, Neglect, Poverty, Intimate Partner Violence, Frequent moving, etc.

Please note this is not an exhaustive list.

  • Talk therapy allows a space for you to make connections between your past and present. This is a good starting point however, research has shown that trauma gets “stuck” in our bodies. It can be difficult to truly move forward if we don’t resolve trauma through a mind-body approach.

In our work together, I will infuse evidenced-based trauma approaches (i.e., holistic, body-based, and EMDR) that will target thoughts, feeling, emotions, and physical responses to trauma, allowing for deeper healing.
